Osman Hadi murder: CID to submit investigation report on December 7

A court has set next month as the new date for the CID to submit the further investigation report in the murder case of Mr. Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha. The report was due today at the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police did not submit it, so Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ms. Jashita Islam gave the new date.
Sub Inspector Mr. Rokonuzzaman, an officer of the general registration branch of the Paltan Thana court, confirmed the matter to BSS. Last December, miscreants shot Mr. Hadi on Box Culvert Road in the Paltan Thana area while he was returning from Friday prayers. This happened at about 2:20 pm, and the attackers fled after the shooting.
Two days later, Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Mr. Abdullah Al Jaber filed a case with Paltan Thana as the complainant. The family took the wounded Mr. Hadi to Singapore for better treatment. He died there under treatment a few days later.
Two days after his death, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mr. Siddique Azad added Section 302 of the Penal Code, which covers murder, to the case. He did this on the application of the investigating officer. Earlier this year, the investigating officer of the case, Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Mr. Faisal Ahmed, filed a charge sheet against 17 people at the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court.
The complainant was not happy with the DB charge sheet. Later that month, he filed a no confidence petition (naraji) in court. The court accepted it and ordered the CID to investigate the case further.
The DB charge sheet names 17 people as accused. Of them, 11 are now in jail, and the other six are on the run.
