PM Orders Law Enforcement to Take Tough Action Against Uncontrolled Polythene Use

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has instructed law enforcement agencies to take stricter action to stop the uncontrolled use of polythene and plastic. He also directed the relevant ministries, divisions and agencies to properly perform their responsibilities in this regard.

He gave the instructions at a review meeting on controlling environmental pollution held at the Secretariat on Wednesday, with the prime minister in the chair. The information was provided by the Prime Minister’s Assistant Press Secretary Gazi Shahriar Pamir.

The meeting discussed the progress of various government initiatives to control environmental pollution and future measures. The discussions covered increasing the use of environmentally friendly block bricks, controlling air, water, soil and noise pollution, and improving waste management.

Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives State Minister Mir Shahe Alam, State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad, State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Sheikh Faridul Islam, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister A B M Abdus Sattar, Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Md Abdus Salam, and the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Dr Saimum Parvez were present at the meeting. Senior officials from the relevant ministries, divisions and agencies were also present.
