Assurance of Swift Rooppur Electricity Supply to the National Grid

Science and Technology Minister Mr. Fakir Mahbub Anam and Rosatom Director General Mr. Alexey Likhachev held a crucial bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the 70th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria, focusing on the latest progress of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project and ensuring electricity supply to the national grid in the shortest possible time. This was informed in a press release issued by the Ministry of Science and Technology on Monday. The high-level meeting featured detailed discussions on the project’s recent advancements and expediting electricity supply to the national grid. Both sides agreed to accelerate the construction work of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant according to the targeted schedule to commence power generation swiftly.
Mr. Fakir Mahbub Anam emphasized completing the remaining work of the project within the shortest possible time while maintaining international nuclear standards and the highest level of safety. Rosatom Director General Mr. Alexey Likhachev assured uninterrupted technical and strategic support for the project. Following the meeting, Science and Technology Minister Mr. Fakir Mahbub Anam and Rosatom Director General Mr. Alexey Likhachev exchanged commemorative gifts as a symbol of Bangladesh-Russia friendly relations. Members of the delegations from both countries were present at the bilateral meeting.
The meeting took place in an extremely cordial atmosphere, with a reaffirmation of the commitment to advance the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant toward rapid and successful implementation. Notably, the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is a mega project for Bangladesh that will strengthen the country’s power supply system as well as ensure energy security. Stakeholders believe that this meeting will infuse new momentum into the implementation of the project.
