Ex-Additional DIG Apel Mahmud Suspended
Former Supernumerary Additional DIG (former Senior Superintendent of Police) Md. Apel Mahmud has been temporarily suspended from government service. The action was taken following the decision to file a departmental case against him for misconduct under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018.
A notice in this regard was issued on Wednesday by the Discipline-1 Branch of the Public Security Division, Ministry of Home Affairs. According to the notice, a departmental lawsuit has been initiated against Md. Apel Mahmud, the former Superintendent of Police for the Tourist Police Cox’s Bazar Region, under Rule 3(b) for misconduct.
It further stated that his temporary suspension was deemed necessary and appropriate pursuant to Rule 12(1) of the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018. The order took effect immediately upon its issuance, reports indicate. During the suspension period, Md. Apel Mahmud will be attached to the Office of the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Rajshahi Range. He will be entitled to a subsistence allowance in accordance with existing rules.
Md. Apel Mahmud last served as the Superintendent of Police for the Cox’s Bazar Tourist Police Region. Later, upon receiving a promotion to the rank of Supernumerary Additional DIG, he was attached to the Rajshahi Range DIG Office, according to various reports. However, the notification did not specify the exact nature of the misconduct or the specific incident prompting the departmental action. The matter is set to be resolved following a departmental inquiry and subsequent legal procedures.
