Bangladesh Fined After Defeat in Tri-Nation Series

Bangladesh suffered a heavy defeat against Zimbabwe at the start of the tri-nation series and have now been fined for a slow over rate. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined the team five per cent of their match fees for the offence.
The ICC announced the penalty in a statement yesterday. Bangladesh were fined for bowling one over short of the required rate during Saturday’s match in Abu Dhabi. ICC match referee David Gilbert imposed the penalty.
Under ICC rules, players are fined five per cent of their match fees for each over their team fails to bowl within the allotted time. On-field umpires Aladdin Pallekare and Izatullah Safi, third umpire Ahsan Raza and fourth umpire Ahmed Shah Durrani levelled the charge against Bangladesh.
Bangladesh’s stand-in captain Towhid Hridoy accepted the offence and the penalty. As a result, no formal hearing was required. Bangladesh lost the match to Zimbabwe by 99 runs. Chasing a target of 272, Hridoy’s team were bowled out for 172 in 33.4 overs. Bangladesh will play their next match in the tri-nation series against Afghanistan tomorrow.
