The Prophet’s (PBUH) Unique Approach to Establishing Social Security and Peace – 1

The security situation in the country is deteriorating, leaving people increasingly worried about their safety. Recently, in Rajbari, an angry mob broke open the tomb of Nurala Pagla and burned his body, amid allegations of negligence and inaction by the administration. Meanwhile, reports of unnecessary provocation, incidents that hurt the religious sentiments of devout people, and other disturbances in Hathazari have made headlines. Newspapers also regularly report killings over trivial disputes.

In this situation, there is no alternative to implementing the guidance given by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to establish social stability and security. During his youth, the Prophet (PBUH) formed a social organisation called Hilf al-Fudul with like-minded young people who shared his dream of eliminating unrest and violence from society. Through this organisation, he sought to end fighting and hostility and promote brotherhood. He set a remarkable example for young people committed to building a peaceful and secure society.

He Was a Mercy to the Worlds

Allah (SWT) says in the Holy Quran: “And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad (PBUH)], except as a mercy to the worlds.” (Surah Al-Anbiya, verse 107) This means that Muhammad (PBUH) was sent as a source of goodness for people across the world. His compassionate outlook and approach helped restore peace to the troubled society of Arabia.

The Prophet’s (PBUH) Approach to Establishing Peace

After receiving prophethood, the Prophet (PBUH) adopted several important measures to establish peace in society. Some of these are outlined below.

Promoting the Spirit of Brotherhood

Allah (SWT) says: “O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another.” (Surah Al-Hujurat, verse 13) The man referred to in this verse is Adam (PBUH), and the woman is Eve (Hawwa, PBUH). Adam (PBUH) is regarded as the first father of humanity, and Eve as the first mother. All people in the world are descendants of these first parents. Therefore, all human beings are brothers and sisters, forming a universal human family.

Emphasising Peace and Order

Peace and order within families, society and the state are essential for people to live well and achieve progress. Islam therefore places great importance on establishing and maintaining peace and order in the world. Avoiding oppression, refraining from unjust rebellion, not killing others unlawfully and resolving disputes through reconciliation are among the actions that promote human welfare and social harmony.

Condemning Rebellion, Oppression and Discord

Unjust rebellion, disorder and oppression seriously undermine peace and stability and make people’s lives miserable. Islam strongly instructs people to refrain from such actions. The Holy Quran states: “And the retribution for an evil act is an evil one like it, but whoever pardons and makes reconciliation—his reward is [due] from Allah (SWT). Indeed, He does not like wrongdoers.” (Surah Ash-Shura, verse 40)
