Sincere Intentions Essential to the True Benefits of Worship: Sarsina Pir Sahib

Hazrat Maulana Mufti Shah Abu Nasr Nesaruddin Ahmad Husain, Amir of Hizbullah and Pir Sahib of Sarsina Darbar Sharif, has said that the value and acceptance of worship depend on one’s intention. If an intention is not sincere and solely aimed at pleasing Allah, worship cannot impart its true lessons or spiritual benefits.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at a gathering for Isale Sawab (prayers for the deceased) and supplications organised by local residents at the Eidgah ground beside Mirkundi graveyard in Narayanganj’s Bandar area on Wednesday (October 21). The event was held on the occasion of his visit to Mirkundi Darussunnat Salehiya Diniya Complex and Dr Yasir Hasan Sheikh Hafizia Madrasa.
He said ikhlas, or sincerity of intention, was the first and foremost condition for any good deed. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) declared that the reward for deeds depends on intentions. If showing off (riya), a desire for worldly fame or arrogance enters worship, it will not be accepted by Allah despite the effort involved. As a result, people are deprived of the true lessons of worship, including taqwa (God-consciousness), self-purification and character development.
He further said people today paid more attention to the outward forms of religious practices than to the purity of their hearts. If the heart was not free from hasad (envy), kibr (arrogance) and riya (showing off), worship would become a mere ritual, bringing no positive change to personal or social life. Therefore, one must purify one’s intention before undertaking any good deed.
The gathering began after Asr prayers and continued until late at night. Among those who spoke were Maulana Mohammad Hemayet bin Tayyeb, organising secretary of Bangladesh Jamiyat-e Hizbullah; Maulana Mohammad Mamunul Haque, deputy director of Sarsina Darussunnat Jamia-e Nesar ia Diniya; and Maulana Mohammad Mohebbullah Al Mahmud, who accompanied the Pir Sahib on his visit.
At the end of the gathering, the Pir Sahib led the concluding supplication, praying for guidance and unity for the Muslim Ummah and peace and well-being for the country and its people.
