National Badminton Tournament Offers Tk. 10 Lakh Prize Money

The 40th National Badminton Championship commenced today at the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium in Dhaka, featuring 616 shuttlers, 535 men and 81 women, from 88 teams nationwide. Organised by the Bangladesh Badminton Federation (BBF), the six-day event runs through October 28 with a total prize purse of BDT 10 lakh alongside a special electric motorcycle for the tournament’s best player. Kazi Hasibur Rahman Shakil, General Secretary of the BBF, announced the details during a venue press conference, stating, ‘The primary objectives of the event are to scout new talent, highlight player potential, and elevate the standard of badminton at the national level’.

The tournament offers substantial financial rewards across all core categories to incentivise top-tier performance throughout the week. In the singles divisions, the men’s champion will take home BDT 1.40 lakh while the runner-up receives BDT 1 lakh; the women’s singles winner earns BDT 1 lakh, and the runner-up secures BDT 60,000. For the doubles events, victorious men’s pairs will share BDT 1.40 lakh against BDT 1 lakh for second place, whereas the winning pairs in both women’s and mixed doubles will each collect BDT 1 lakh, with the respective runners-up claiming BDT 60,000.

High stakes and fierce competition define this edition despite the absence of defending men’s singles champion Khandakar Abdus Soad of Bangladesh Ansar, who is sidelined due to an unrecovered injury. Last year’s runner-up Al Amin Jumar of the Bangladesh Army leads the men’s challenge, while women’s singles defending champion Nasima Khatun and runner-up Urmi Akhtar headline a competitive women’s field. The event is title-sponsored by PHP Family alongside eight co-sponsors, with Turbo Electrolyte Sports Drink as beverage partner and One Sky Communication Limited providing connectivity services.
