Bangladesh Wins Bronze Despite Defeat to India

Bangladesh missed out on a place in the final of the inaugural Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship, suffering a 56-27 defeat against hosts India in the semi-finals to exit the title race. However, by reaching the last four, Bangladesh had already secured a bronze medal.

In the match held the night before yesterday at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Ahmedabad, India exerted dominance over Bangladesh right from the start. The hosts established a commanding 28-8 lead by the end of the first half. Despite efforts to narrow the deficit after the break, Bangladesh failed to withstand India’s powerful attacks, ultimately leaving the field with a heavy 29-point defeat.

The Bangladesh men’s team concluded the tournament with four wins and two losses out of six matches, while the women’s team failed to win any medals. Previously, the Bangladesh men’s team had faced India at the last Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, where the red and green representatives lost 48-25 in the group stage. This time in the Commonwealth Kabaddi semi-finals, the margin of that defeat widened further.
