Ongoing Unrest in Garment Industry Deeply Concerning: Jamaat Ameer

Jamaat Ameer and Leader of the Opposition Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said the ongoing unrest in the garment industry is very worrying. He said this yesterday in a post on his verified Facebook page. He said the garment industry, the country’s main export sector, is passing through a hard time. He named several causes.
These causes are the government’s failure to supply power without breaks, high fuel prices, rising production costs and uncertainty in the world market. Cancelled or withdrawn orders, and fewer orders than before, also hurt the sector. He said the workers face a hard crisis too, because of house rent, rising prices of daily goods, travel costs and medical costs.
He said the government must quickly take lasting steps to solve the problems that burden this main export sector if it wants to keep the sector alive. He said that if the government can ensure power without breaks and raise production speed, it can then consider and solve these problems in a fair way. On saving the industry, the Leader of the Opposition said that when industry survives, not only owners survive but the country survives too.
So the government must take responsible steps to save both the industrial entrepreneurs and the workers. He sincerely called on all sides to show restraint and act responsibly from their own positions. Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said any failure here will push the whole fragile economy to the edge of ruin. He said there is no room for delay.
