Exam results are not worth more than life

The HSC exam is an important step in student life. It plays a special part in deciding a student’s future path in education. Every year lakhs of students sit this exam, and they hope for good results. According to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), about 13,000 people die by suicide every year. A big share of them are young people and students. One key reason is not doing well in public exams.

Not doing well in one exam does not mean a student has failed. But in the eyes of society, family and even the education system, the exam result becomes the only measure of ability. So students who do not get good results or who fail feel heartbroken, and some choose the extreme step of ending their lives. To face this situation, teachers, society and family should all give students emotional support. Even if the results are not good, no one should insult students or compare them with others. Results can never be worth more than life.
