Bangladesh Jamiatul Modarresin Thanks PM for Pledge to Work in Support of Islam

Bangladesh Jamiatul Modarresin, the only non-political professional organisation of madrasa teachers and employees in the country, has sincerely welcomed Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s historic courtesy meeting with Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh Amir Allama Shah Muhibbullah Babunagari at Babunagar Madrasa in Fatikchhari, his display of respect for senior Islamic scholars and ulema, and his firm pledge not to take any steps contrary to Islam and the Quran and Sunnah.

In a joint statement issued yesterday, Sunday, the organisation’s President Alhaj A M M Bahauddin and Secretary General Principal Shabbir Ahmad Momtazi welcomed the prime minister’s timely, courageous and historic steps and expressed thanks and gratitude on behalf of the organisation’s leaders at all levels and the ulema community.

The leaders said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman made a clear and faith-inspired statement at a discussion meeting with the ulema: “I am a Muslim, Islam is the state religion, and it is beyond imagination or even conception that anything contrary to the Quran and Sunnah would be done by the government.” They said the statement has greatly encouraged and inspired the Tawhidi people and the ulema community of the country. Such a strong and clear commitment in support of Islam from the country’s highest leadership is highly commendable and encouraging.

Calling upon the prime minister in the interest of Islam, the leaders said effective measures must be taken to prevent any anti-Islamic activities and religious hatred in the country, and Islamic ideals must be upheld at all levels of state and social life.

They said work must be undertaken to modernise and improve the quality of madrasa education while preserving its mainstream character and religious values, so that proper teachings of the Quran and Sunnah can be promoted. All longstanding legitimate demands of madrasa teachers and employees at all levels of the country must be fulfilled, and prompt implementation-oriented measures must be taken to ensure all their rights and professional opportunities and facilities.

They also called for maintaining good relations between the ulema and the government, playing an effective role in thwarting domestic and foreign conspiracies, protecting the country’s independence and sovereignty, and achieving national prosperity.

The leaders expressed hope that the government’s cordial relationship with the ulema will continue in the future. At the same time, they expressed the expectation that the government would remain steadfast in protecting the country’s independence, sovereignty and Islamic values.

The leaders prayed for the long life and good health of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and the overall welfare and success of the current government.
