We Feel Hurt When India allows Hasina to Conduct Political activities: Opposition Leader 

Leader of the Opposition in the National Parliament and Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, has said the people of the country collectively brought about the downfall of fascist Sheikh Hasina through movement, and that under pressure from that movement, Sheikh Hasina was forced to flee to India.

He said India has not only given shelter to Sheikh Hasina, who fled the country, but is also giving her the opportunity to conduct political malpractice while sitting there. He said such conduct by India causes them pain, adding that while they too want good relations with India, those relations must be based on equal dignity. He said India must certainly consider this, and that the people of this country will no longer accept the kind of conduct India displayed in the past, following the movement of the 24th. He made these remarks yesterday in his closing address at the National Parliament session. Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said the people of the country have given their verdict in favor of constitutional reform, and that the government is resorting to various forms of trickery in implementing that public verdict. He said they want the government to accept the verdict given by the people. In his parliamentary address, the Opposition Leader touched on various matters ranging from the Language Movement to the independence struggle and the movement against autocracy.

Earlier, in remarks made during discussion on various important laws, he said the Property Transfer Law is completely in conflict with the Quran and Sunnah, and called on the President not to give assent to this law. At the same time, he demanded that the law be reconsidered by taking the opinion of the country’s leading Alems-Ulama through the Islamic Foundation.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said it is regrettable to say that the Property Transfer Law is indeed entirely in conflict with the Quran and Sunnah. He said that although the law has already been passed in parliament, he was requesting, on behalf of parliament, that the President, as the highest guardian of the state, not sign it.

The Jamaat Ameer said the country’s renowned and leading Alems-Ulama have strongly expressed disagreement with this law and have been protesting against it. Expressing respect for the government and BNP, he said that since they had previously stated that no law would be made contrary to the Quran and Sunnah, the law could be sent back to the Islamic Foundation in order to keep that promise.
