OIC Strongly Condemns Houthi Attacks on Makkah and Madinah

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has condemned Houthi attacks in the Makkah and Madinah regions. The organisation said any act targeting holy sites and mosques or terrorising civilians is contrary to Islamic values and international law.

In a statement on Wednesday (September 16), the OIC General Secretariat said the attacks by the Houthi group were aimed at terrorising civilians, violating the sanctity of holy sites and mosques, and hurting the sentiments of Muslims around the world.

The statement described attacks on holy sites, mosques and civilian facilities as terrorist acts and strongly condemned them. It also called for compliance with international laws and principles to prevent such activities.

The OIC expressed full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and supported measures taken by the Saudi authorities to protect holy sites, civilians, national security and the country’s sovereignty.

Earlier, the Saudi-led coalition claimed that a Houthi drone was shot down south of Makkah on Tuesday. The coalition said the drone was destroyed before it entered the restricted airspace of the holy city. Reuters reported that the Houthis denied allegations of targeting Makkah and described Saudi Arabia’s claim as false.

Amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, clashes between Yemen’s Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition have also intensified again. Recently, the Houthis have been accused of carrying out attacks targeting various facilities and cities in Saudi Arabia.
