Mandakini Refutes Dawood Ibrahim Ties, Clarifies Controversial Sharjah Photo

Bollywood actress Ms. Mandakini, who achieved overnight stardom in the 1980s with the film ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’, has finally spoken out about her widely discussed photo and alleged ties with underworld don Mr. Dawood Ibrahim. Decades later, the veteran actress addressed the truth behind the controversial image showing her seated beside Mr. Ibrahim at a cricket stadium in Sharjah, an incident that sparked massive uproar at the time.

In an exclusive interview with news agency ANI, Ms. Mandakini clarified that Mr. Dawood Ibrahim had not invited her to watch the match. ‘People can write or say whatever they want; we have no control over that. As artists, we interact with thousands of people, and everyone is equal to us. A lot of people were present there. We had traveled to Dubai for a show and went to the stadium to watch the match from there. Mr. Dawood did not invite me,’ Mandakini stated during the interview.

She added, ‘I didn’t realize at the time that the incident would create such a huge controversy. However, that controversy caused irreparable damage to my acting career. Later, I realized the need for a professional team to handle such situations. I protested against these rumors everywhere.’ Ms. Mandakini, who debuted in Bollywood with the Mr. Raj Kapoor-directed Ram Teri Ganga Maili (1985), went on to act in over 75 films throughout her career. Despite sharing the screen with top stars like Mr. Anil Kapoor, Mr. Mithun Chakraborty, and Mr. Govinda, the controversy surrounding the photograph with Mr. Dawood Ibrahim dealt a major blow to her career.
