China Signals Support for Iran, Vows to Help Protect Its Interests

China has given a strong commitment to stand by Iran as it faces increasing military pressure from the United States and Israel. Following a bilateral meeting between the two countries’ foreign ministers in Beijing, China said it was ready to help Iran “protect its legitimate interests.”
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held high-level bilateral talks in Beijing. International political analysts consider China’s message particularly significant amid the ongoing war in the Middle East.
Wang Yi said China would stand with Iran in protecting its sovereignty and complying with international rules and norms. He stressed the need to establish lasting peace in the Middle East and said China would continue its diplomatic efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi thanked China for its diplomatic support and friendship and expressed hope for a Chinese role in maintaining stability in the Middle East.
