Imran Khan’s Sister Aleema Khan Detained
New tension has risen again in Pakistani politics. The Lahore administration has ordered the detention of Ms. Aleema Khan, sister of former Prime Minister Mr. Imran Khan, and another PTI leader, Mr. Muhammad Aamir, for 30 days.
Authorities used Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) law to take this action against them. Police took both of them under tight security to Lahore’s well known Kot Lakhpat Jail.
Police and intelligence teams submitted a report on the matter. The report says Ms. Aleema Khan and Mr. Muhammad Aamir were present during the protest and road blockade that took place on May 9. They also face accusations of provoking party workers through social media.
Police said the two could disturb law and order in the area if they remained free. They said the detention was carried out for security reasons. However, both have the right to appeal against the order to the government.
Earlier, police suddenly picked up Ms. Aleema Khan from Lytton Road in Lahore. She was then sent to jail from there.
Mr. Barrister Gohar Khan, chairman of PTI, reacted with strong anger and protested the move. He said the government is deliberately trying to create unrest in the country.
He said the party’s program on September 27 will remain completely peaceful. He added that the government detained Ms. Aleema Khan only to suppress political opposition. He demanded that the government stop such actions and release Ms. Aleema Khan immediately.
