Educational Institutions Will Remain Closed for 7 Consecutive Days

Students will get a seven-day holiday during the upcoming Durga Puja. No changes have been made to the Durga Puja holiday in the revised 2026 academic calendar. As the five-day holiday will be combined with the weekly weekend, educational institutions will remain closed for seven consecutive days.
According to the revised holiday calendar of the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education, government and non-government secondary and lower-secondary schools will remain closed from October 18 (Sunday) to October 22 (Thursday) for Durga Puja. October 23 and 24 are Friday and Saturday, the weekly holidays. As a result, students will get seven consecutive days off from October 18 to 24.
Government primary schools will also have a five-day holiday from October 18 to 22 for Durga Puja. With the weekly holidays added, students at these schools will likewise enjoy seven consecutive days off.
Government employees will also have holidays for Durga Puja. Their holiday period may be extended further when weekly holidays and, where applicable, optional leave are combined with general and executive-order holidays. However, this will depend on whether the respective employee takes optional or additional leave.
The Secondary and Higher Education Division published the revised holiday calendar on September 20. While the holiday for Fateha-i-Yazdaham was moved forward by one day, from September 24 to September 23, no changes were made to the Durga Puja holiday schedule.
