President Urges Farmers for Smart Farming and Less Chemical Use
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for increased awareness among farmers and relevant stakeholders to control the indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in agriculture.
He stated that the excessive and unnecessary application of chemical fertilizers and pesticides is causing severe, long-term damage to soil health, the environment, and public health. The President urged agricultural universities and all relevant institutions to work in a coordinated manner to make farmers conscious and alert regarding this issue. He made these remarks during a courtesy meeting with a delegation from Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University at Bangabhaban on Wednesday afternoon, September 16.
During the meeting, the President emphasized the effective field-level application of research-based technologies, safe food production, and environment-friendly agricultural practices to build a sustainable and modern agricultural system. At the same time, he called for establishing closer coordination among agricultural education, research, and extension activities.
During the visit, the delegation led by the Vice-Chancellor of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Latif, briefed the President on the overall activities of the university. Secretaries to the President’s office were present during the meeting.
