‘Urgent State Action Required Against Culture of Impunity and Moral Decay’

The National Ulama Alliance has expressed deep grief, intense indignation, and profound concern over the tragic murder of Mr. Ishayat Shahriar Apratim, a 13-year-old school student in Cumilla. In a joint press statement issued on Sunday, leaders of the alliance noted that although police have detained and interrogated several individuals, claiming to have obtained vital leads, a thorough, transparent, and fair investigation remains essential. They urged the authorities to swiftly uncover the true motive behind the brutal killing, identify all perpetrators involved, and ensure that no criminal remains above the law under any circumstances.

Highlighting the gravity of the incident, Maulana Ashraf Uddin Mahdi Azhari, Convener of the National Ulama Alliance, stated, ‘Failure to bring perpetrators to exemplary justice through swift and effective investigations fosters a sense of impunity among criminals and erodes public trust in the government.’ He emphasized that Islam places the utmost importance on human life and security, noting that Apratim’s tragic death serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need to reinforce moral and humanitarian values across families, educational institutions, society, and the state, alongside strict law enforcement measures.

Adding to the call for accountability, Maulana Sanaullah Khan, Member Secretary of the organization, demanded a prompt, impartial, and complete investigation to bring the actual culprits to justice. He called for effective state and social initiatives to prevent such violent crimes in the future, while extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. Reiterating Islamic principles, alliance leaders cited the Holy Quran’s decree that killing an innocent soul is akin to slaying all mankind, warning that this case must not become another instance of unpunished crime but rather a catalyst for systemic reform.

Concluding their statement, the alliance leaders conveyed their deepest sympathies to Mr. Apratim’s grieving parents, family, and relatives during this time of irreparable loss. They prayed for the divine forgiveness and peace of the departed young soul, asking Almighty Allah to grant Mr. Apratim the highest status in Paradise and to bestow patience and fortitude upon his family. Ultimately, the organization urged both the state and society to fulfill their collective responsibility in establishing justice, eliminating the culture of impunity, and ensuring a safe, secure environment for every citizen.
