Bangladesh Begin World Cup Campaign Against England

Bangladesh will launch their ICC Men’s ODI World Cup campaign against former champions England in Windhoek, Namibia, on October 8, 2027. Placed in Group B alongside South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and Qualifier B, Bangladesh face a structured path through the 14-team flagship tournament. Litton Das’s side will rely heavily on senior players like Shanto and Miraz to navigate a challenging group stage spread across multiple venues in Southern Africa.

Following their opening match against England, Bangladesh will move to South Africa to face New Zealand in Kougampo City on October 12. They then travel to Durban to take on Sri Lanka on October 16 and tournament co-hosts South Africa on October 19. The team wraps up their group stage fixtures against Qualifier B in Tshwane on October 23. Each group match remains critical for securing a place in the next phase of the competition.

The tournament begins on October 2 with a preliminary ‘Super Series’ involving teams finishing second, third, and fourth in global qualifiers to determine the final group stage participant. Main group stage action commences on October 7 in Cape Town with Australia facing India. Ten teams have already secured direct entries, including co-hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe, while third co-host Namibia and former champions West Indies must navigate the qualifying rounds to progress.

The top three teams from Group A and Group B, along with the best-performing fourth-place team overall, will advance to the ‘Super Seven’ round starting October 25. Played in a round-robin format, this phase determines the four semi-finalists. If Bangladesh advance, their specific match dates and locations will depend on group seedings: England (AB4), New Zealand (B1), South Africa (B2), and Sri Lanka (B3), with Bangladesh assuming the spot of any eliminated seed.

The tournament concludes with semi-finals in Cape Town on November 17 and Tshwane on November 18, leading to the final in Johannesburg on November 21. Dedicated reserve days have been scheduled for both semi-finals and the final to handle potential weather disruptions. No official quotes or individual statements were released by officials or players during the tournament grouping announcement in Cape Town.
