Delhi Police Arrest Three Top CJP Leaders Ahead of Protest

Delhi Police have arrested three senior leaders of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) ahead of a protest demanding the resignation of India’s Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the scrapping of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists.
The leaders are Abhijit Deepke, Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das. Police said they were arrested as a preventive measure.
The CJP’s legal team was informed of the arrests on Sunday morning (October 11). Action was taken against the three under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
The party said the leaders were scheduled to appear before an executive magistrate at Delhi Cantonment police station at 9am local time. CJP legal affairs chief Ratna Singh said the party’s lawyers would be present.
Police detained the three leaders on Saturday after they arrived in Delhi from Mumbai. The CJP alleged that police officers boarded their aircraft and detained them. The leaders were on their way to join a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.
The CJP had called the protest to demand Kumar’s resignation and the scrapping of the SIR process. The party has raised objections to the voter-list revision and planned the rally at Jantar Mantar to protest against it.
Following the arrests, the CJP sought the Supreme Court’s intervention to secure the leaders’ release. Ratna Singh said the party’s lawyers were working to provide them with legal assistance.
