Jamaat Ameer Assures Support in Addressing Issues Faced by Hindu Community

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Leader of the Opposition, has assured the Hindu community of his support in addressing their issues, according to Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar.
Speaking at a press briefing following an exchange of views on Wednesday (October 14) at the Minto Road government residence, Parwar stated that the Ameer listened to concerns regarding discrimination and deprivation before pledging support.

Representatives from major Hindu organizations, including the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, Puja Udjapan Front, Jatiya Hindu Mohajote, and the Hindu Religious Welfare Trust attended the meeting.
Parwar noted that Dr. Shafiqur emphasized his constitutional obligation as Opposition Leader to protect the rights, safety, and interests of all citizens regardless of religion.
Hindu leaders praised Jamaat-e-Islami activists for their efforts in safeguarding temples and religious events following the July uprising and the August 5 transition.

Acknowledging the community’s concerns, the Jamaat chief reassured attendees that both the government and the opposition would work together to resolve these challenges, promising continued dialogue and assistance.
Senior advocate Subrata Chowdhury expressed gratitude for the invitation ahead of Durga Puja, welcoming the dialogue as a positive step toward national unity and social cooperation.
Chowdhury expressed satisfaction with the discussions and suggested that communal harmony would be further strengthened if Muslim leaders also promoted harmony during Friday sermon (khutbah) addresses.
