Without Roads or Bridges, Three Villages in Doarabazar Endure Four Decades of Hardship

People of Nurpur, Sonapur and Nandigram in Surma Union, Doarabazar Upazila of Sunamganj, suffer every day to get around. The area has no bridge over the Khasiamara River. It also has no paved road from Nurpur to Bhujna village. Several thousand people of these three villages have faced great trouble for about four decades.
Locals say they could reach the upazila headquarters in just 10 minutes if officials built the bridge and the road. Local sources say the area has no good way to cross the river and no proper road link. So people face many problems every day. Students, critically ill patients, job holders and traders suffer the most.
In an emergency, they spend extra money and time to reach the upazila headquarters, and they suffer on the way. This poor transport holds locals back in education, health care and business. Students struggle to reach their schools and colleges. Patients cannot reach the hospital fast. Working people find their daily travel a constant trouble.
Locals say a bridge over the Khasiamara River and a road from Nurpur to Bhujna village would make travel between Surma Union and the upazila headquarters easier. It would save both time and travel costs. Several people spoke out in anger and made demands to end this long suffering.
They include Mr. Abdur Rouf, a member of the Surma Union Parishad, and Mr. Imran Miah and Mr. Azad Miah, who may run for the Union Parishad member post. Local residents Mr. Surat Jamal and Mr. Mainuddin and others also spoke. The victims strongly demand quick and effective steps from the authorities and public representatives to end this suffering.
The people of the three villages now ask one question. When will this transport trouble of four long decades end?
