Future Generations Will Pay a Heavy Price for War: Iranian President

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called on the international community to take a more serious and responsible role in addressing the severe environmental damage caused by military conflicts and wars around the world.
He warned that future generations would have to pay a heavy price for the destruction taking place today. Referring to the irreversible damage to nature caused by ongoing conflicts and aggression in the Middle East and other parts of the world, the Iranian president described it as “ecocide,” or environmental destruction on a massive scale.
According to him, war destroys not only human lives and infrastructure but also burns forests, destroys wetlands and severely pollutes soil and water. These effects can last for many years.
President Pezeshkian stressed that the international community must take strong and effective action to ensure that nature does not become a “silent and subjugated victim” of armed conflicts.
He also called for environmental protection and peace diplomacy to be given priority alongside political dialogue in efforts to resolve regional and international crises.
