BGB Foils BSF Bid to Push 12 People into Bangladesh Along Lalmonirhat Border

India’s Border Security Force (BSF) attempted to push 12 people into Bangladesh through the Burimari-Bamandol border in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat. However, the attempt failed after the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) intervened promptly and maintained strict surveillance. The 12 people are currently inside Indian territory near the border.

The incident has created tension in the border area and caused some concern among local residents. According to BGB and local sources, the push-in attempt took place early yesterday morning near main border pillar No. 838/1 at the Burimari-Bamandol border in Patgram. Taking advantage of the darkness, the BSF allegedly attempted to push the 12 people into Bangladesh at once. The group included two children, two women and eight men.

After detecting the attempt, a BGB patrol team quickly reached the spot and took up a strong position, preventing the group from entering Bangladesh. Faced with the BGB’s resistance, the BSF failed to carry out its plan. Local sources confirmed that the 12 people are now staying about 100 yards inside Indian territory from the zero line after being prevented from crossing into Bangladesh.

The BGB has significantly increased patrols and intelligence surveillance in the area to prevent further attempts at unauthorised entry. Its personnel remain on high alert to avoid any untoward incident. The BGB has strongly protested the incident.

On Sunday morning, the BGB called for a flag meeting with the BSF to seek an explanation and formally protest the attempted push-in. Officials hope the meeting will clarify why the BSF tried to push the 12 people into Bangladesh and what its purpose was.

Confirming the incident at noon, Lieutenant Colonel Md. Shahinul Islam Shaheen, commander of the 61 BGB Teesta Battalion, said, “There was an attempt to push 12 people into Bangladesh through the border. The attempt was foiled by our alert patrol team.”

He said the BGB had protested the incident and called for a flag meeting with the BSF. He added that the BGB was making strong efforts to resolve the matter through the meeting while continuing surveillance to ensure border security.
