OIC Members Reaffirm Support for Rohingya Genocide Case at ICJ

Member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have reaffirmed their support for the Rohingya genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), expressing hope that the legal proceedings will help pave the way for a lasting solution to the protracted Rohingya crisis.
The solidarity and commitment were reiterated at a meeting of the OIC Ministerial Ad Hoc Committee on Accountability for Human Rights Violations against the Rohingya, held on the sidelines of the 52nd session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Baghdad, Iraq. The information was disclosed in a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.
Speaking as vice-chair of the meeting, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir called on OIC member states to strengthen their unity and take effective measures to resolve the longstanding Rohingya crisis.
Humayun Kabir is leading the Bangladesh delegation to the foreign ministers’ conference. He stressed that ensuring justice and accountability through international legal mechanisms is essential to finding a sustainable solution to the humanitarian crisis.
Describing the Rohingya crisis as one of the major challenges facing the Muslim Ummah, he urged OIC member states to take coordinated and collective action to increase humanitarian assistance and support the ongoing legal proceedings.
The state minister emphasised the importance of sustained engagement by the international community to ensure that the suffering of the Rohingya remains a priority on the global agenda.
He also drew international attention to the five-point action plan presented by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Referring to the action plan, Humayun Kabir underscored the need for urgent and decisive international action, particularly to ensure justice and accountability under existing legal frameworks. He urged OIC member states to translate their solidarity with the Rohingya into concrete initiatives to accelerate a sustainable resolution to the crisis.
At the meeting, OIC member states reiterated their support for the ongoing case at the ICJ and expressed hope that the judicial process would contribute to resolving the protracted crisis. The meeting also highlighted the importance of collective international efforts to ensure accountability for human rights violations against the Rohingya and advance prospects for a lasting solution.
Bangladesh has provided shelter to 1.4 million Rohingya who fled Myanmar amid brutal persecution and continues its diplomatic efforts to find a sustainable solution to the crisis.
