Talks With US Impossible Amid Threats and Blockade: Iran

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has sent a clear message to the United States, saying Washington cannot expect negotiations while imposing a blockade and issuing threats. In a statement published by Iranian state media, Pezeshkian said the United States must first recognise Iran’s rights and end all forms of coercion and aggression if it wants to negotiate with Tehran.

“Closing all paths and making threats while demanding negotiations at the same time is in no way acceptable,” Mr. Pezeshkian said. Criticising the United States for withdrawing from international agreements, the Iranian president said the US administration had backed out of deals it had previously signed.

“In my view, no agreement should be made lightly. But once an agreement is signed, one should remain committed to it until the end—even if its terms do not work in one’s favour,” he added.
