Netflix Fires Head of Film Division

Netflix, one of the world’s most popular video streaming platforms, is undergoing major changes. The company has removed Dan Lin from his position as head of its film division, nearly three years after he took charge. The move follows a series of major layoffs at the company.
According to entertainment news outlet Variety, multiple sources confirmed Lin’s departure. However, no detailed explanation has been provided for his removal. Netflix has also yet to announce who will lead its film division next.
Last week, around 1,000 employees reportedly lost their jobs at Netflix. During the same period, reports also emerged that the company’s chief content officer, Bela Bajaria, had lost her position. These successive changes have raised fresh questions about Netflix’s future plans and management.
Lin took charge of Netflix’s film division in 2024. Before joining the company, he ran his own production company, Rideback, which was involved in well-known films and franchises, including The Lego film series, It and Sherlock Holmes.
During his tenure at Netflix, Lin said he had been involved in approving or acquiring the rights to 88 films. Projects that drew attention during his tenure included Apex, Emilia Pérez and Here Comes the Flood.
Meanwhile, former Warner Bros. film division heads Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy are being discussed as potential successors to Lin. However, no official announcement has been made regarding their possible move to Netflix.
The entertainment industry is now watching to see how the company’s latest leadership changes will affect its film production and content selection.
