Paris Curfew Extended to October 26

The nighttime curfew in two designated areas of the French capital, Paris, has been extended until Monday, October 26. The restriction will remain in effect daily from 11:00 PM to 6:00 AM local time. Police authorities took this decision to ensure public safety following incidents of violence, vandalism, and looting during recent protests.
On Thursday, October 22, the Paris Police Prefecture announced the extension of the curfew. The order covers the central square of Place de la République as well as specific streets and surrounding zones in the Les Halles district. The restriction will apply every night from the evening of October 22 until the morning of October 26. The curfew applies to both adults and minors. Exceptions have been made for residents, commuting workers, business owners, and emergency personnel, who will be allowed to move freely upon presenting valid proof of necessity.
On October 17, nationwide protests erupted across France against the rising cost of living. The demonstrations led to acts of violence, destruction, and looting in several cities, including Paris, Lyon, and Marseille. Following the unrest, Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu directed authorities on October 19 to implement targeted curfews in high-risk areas.
Meanwhile, safety concerns remain heightened due to new protest calls scheduled for October 24 and 25. Home Minister Laurent Nuñez announced an increased presence of police and gendarmerie. Additionally, the government plans to assist businesses damaged during the looting. According to Trade Minister Serge Papin, at least 3,000 businesses across the country were affected by looting.
