Hollywood Adapts ‘Arabian Nights’ Based on Classic Folk Tales

Following the massive success of Disney’s 2019 musical fantasy film Aladdin, Hollywood is set to produce a 10-episode live-action fantasy series based on the classic tales of One Thousand and One Nights, titled Arabian Nights. The series promises several intriguing twists. Rather than following a single story, it will bring together iconic characters- the adventurous sailor Sinbad, Aladdin and his magical lamp, and the clever Ali Baba- into a unified narrative. Together with Scheherazade, they will attempt to save the world from an evil wizard.
According to Variety, Los Angeles-based production company Veritas Entertainment is heading the mega-project. The script is being written by Kamran Pasha, known for The Kings, alongside Steven S. DeKnight, the writer behind Spartacus. Scriptwriter Kamran Pasha stated that the series offers an opportunity to do something Hollywood has never done before by uniting the beloved characters of the Arabian Nights into one story, while maintaining cultural authenticity alongside the thrill of the original tales.
Co-writer Steven S. DeKnight expressed his excitement about joining the initiative to bring these classic stories to modern audiences, noting that Mr. Pasha has given the narrative a unique and even more thrilling spin. The creators revealed their goal is to expand the story of Arabian Nights across multiple seasons. Filming is scheduled to begin in Bahrain in September 2027, with full support from the Bahraini government.
