All Lights at Basurhat Sub-Registrar Office Remained On for Five Consecutive Days

While strict directives were being enforced nationwide to save electricity, a picture of serious negligence emerged at the Basurhat Sub-Registrar Office in Companiganj, Noakhali, where all the lights inside and outside the building remained on around the clock during the five-day government holiday for Durga Puja.
After office hours on Monday (October 19), no responsible official or employee appeared to have taken the initiative to switch off the lights. It was also learnt that the employee responsible for monitoring had gone on a holiday trip to Cox’s Bazar.
A visit to the site found that four exterior lights, the halogen lights on the upper floors and all the interior lights remained on even during daylight hours. The waste of public resources sparked anger among local residents.
A resident named Shahriar alleged that this was not an isolated incident. Such waste of electricity frequently occurred due to inadequate monitoring, he said.
Basurhat Sub-Registrar Md Asaduzzaman said he had been informed of the matter. He added that an investigation would be conducted after the office reopened and appropriate action would be taken against anyone found responsible for negligence in accordance with the rules.
