Government to buy six cargoes of LNG

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase has approved two proposals to buy six cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG). The government will buy the gas from BP Singapore Private Limited and Qatar Energy Trading LLC.
The committee gave the approval yesterday at its 51st meeting of 2026. Finance Minister Mr. Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury chaired the meeting virtually.
According to the Cabinet Division, the Energy and Mineral Resources Division placed two proposals at the meeting. After discussion, the committee recommended approving both.
The first proposal sought approval to buy five cargoes of LNG from BP Singapore Private Limited through the direct purchase method. It follows Section 68 of the Public Procurement Act, 2006 and Rule 99(2) of the Public Procurement Rules, 2025. It also sought approval to buy extra cargoes if needed, with the agreement of both sides.
Under this proposal, the price of LNG per MMBtu will be 0.17 US dollar less than the Japan Korea Marker (JKM) price. The proposal named BP Singapore Private Limited as the recommended bidder.
The second proposal sought approval to buy one extra cargo of LNG from Qatar Energy Trading LLC on a Government to Government (G2G) basis. The purchase will fall under the existing long term contract. The cargo is set for 20 December 2026. The proposal suggests a price different from the rate in the existing contract.
Under this proposal, the price of LNG per MMBtu will be 0.10 US dollar less than the JKM price. The proposal named Qatar Energy Trading LLC as the recommended bidder.
