Awami League’s Atrocities Continue, Govt Fails to Make Arrests: NCP’s Akhtar

National Citizen Party (NCP) Member Secretary Mr. Akhtar Hossain has said the government has many kinds of intelligence reports. He said the head of government also receives different intelligence information. Yet Awami League processions are happening, blasts are going off in several places, and fires are being set. He said the government has shown no ability to arrest them, even after the incidents.
He spoke on Sunday (1 November) at the National Youth Conference. Jatiya Juboshakti organized it for National Youth Day under the theme “State Reconstruction and Youth Employment.” Mr. Hossain said the government deserves pity if it does not want to fulfill the hopes of the people. He said the NCP wants politics to run in a lawful way. He said a government that fails everywhere loses its moral right to run the state.
Mr. Hossain said the government has stood against the people by rejecting the referendum result. He said questioning the political and legal basis of the July Charter means denying the people’s verdict. He said it also seems that some people are trying to delay the trial of the July genocide. He said the people of Bangladesh will not accept any attempt to spare Awami League members involved in crimes against humanity.
He said three words have been discussed most since the 2024 mass uprising: reform, justice and election. He said the election has taken place, but there is still no progress on reform and justice. He said the BNP government had a natural duty to solve these two issues after taking office. He said 70 percent of voters said yes in the referendum, but the government is now finding ways to deny it.
Mr. Hossain criticized the Home Minister’s remarks. He said the minister had said yesterday that the July Charter has a political basis but no legal basis. He reminded the minister that the NCP had demanded an effective legal basis before signing the Charter. He said the reform agenda has passed through a public referendum. He said every July issue now has a political basis, a legal basis and recognition of the people’s sovereignty, so there is no room to step back.
On the July genocide trial, Mr. Hossain said no verdict has been carried out against Awami League members involved in crimes against humanity and killings. He said the opposite is happening, as sentences of dangerous criminals are being reduced. He said those within reach are getting light sentences. He said it looks like the government wants to keep the trial hanging.
He said the government changed the prosecution team of the International Crimes Tribunal after it took office. He said it formed a new team with lawyers who share its ideology. He said the NCP has no objection to that, but asked where the progress in the trial is. He said whatever trial is happening is at the Tribunal, while the lower courts show no progress anywhere.
Mr. Hossain said the NCP hears that cases are being closed with final reports after deals to spare criminals. He warned that if the government frees those who committed genocide through such deals, they will not spare the government either. He said the people of Bangladesh will not spare it too. He said victims of enforced disappearance, murder and genocide under the Awami League will never accept leniency toward that party.
He accused the government of putting party loyalists into many institutions and corporations as directors. He said it is also hiring its own people in universities and colleges. He said it has placed its own people as administrators in public bodies, from city corporations to union parishads. He said administrators in Dhaka are campaigning and putting up posters for the coming election while still holding office.
He said this does not fit the work of an administrator. He said the government has made arrangements so party workers and leaders can campaign using public funds. He told the Election Commission and the government that Bangladesh will not allow elections to be held under these administrators. He said the Commission must make a clear law so that administrators of city corporations, district councils and union parishads cannot contest the coming local government elections.
Mr. Hossain said no one can play games with the democracy of the people. He said the government wants to protect its own power and move ahead. He said the people will not give it that chance. He said the NCP and Jatiya Juboshakti will take to the streets if the government keeps standing against the people. He said they will stand against any wrongdoing by the government.
On youth employment, he said the government came to power promising jobs for young people. He said it has not created jobs and cannot even sustain the existing ones. He said layoffs are happening in many institutions and garment factory workers are being dismissed. He said the government has created mass unemployment after coming to power with a job promise.
He said the government is moving toward a new arrangement to give jobs to its own people. He said the Public Service Commission (PSC) is being reshuffled in a way that shows a plan to hire party loyalists through it too.
Jatiya Juboshakti President Advocate Mr. Tariqul Islam presided over the National Youth Conference 2026. General Secretary Engineer Mr. Farhad Sohel moderated it.
