Summit LNG Terminal’s Emergency Maintenance to Trigger Four Days of Low Gas Pressure Nationwide

Summit Energy’s floating LNG terminal at Moheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar will shut for emergency maintenance. Because of this, gas supply across the country will fall from Wednesday to Saturday. Customers across the country, especially in Chattogram, will get less gas in this period. Petrobangla Deputy General Manager (Public Relations) Mr. Tarikul Islam Khan signed a notice on this yesterday, Sunday.
The notice says regasification at the Summit LNG terminal will stay shut from 8 am on Wednesday to 4 pm on Saturday. As a result, the daily gas supply to the national gas grid will fall from 920 million cubic feet to 600 million cubic feet. During the maintenance, the national grid will get 320 million cubic feet less gas every day. So customers across the country may face low gas pressure in this period.
The notice says the same kind of maintenance took place in December last year. Petrobangla expressed sincere regret to customers for this short term trouble. Gas supply in Chattogram depends fully on LNG. So when supply from the LNG terminal falls by almost half, power plants, fertiliser factories, heavy industries, CNG filling stations and household customers in Chattogram will face a gas crisis. Officials of Karnaphuli Gas said this.
