Dhaka Sees No Geopolitical Risk in China-Bangladesh-Myanmar Corridor, Says State Minister

The Bangladesh government sees no geopolitical concerns regarding the proposed corridor connecting Bangladesh to China via Myanmar. Instead, Dhaka believes that the implementation of this corridor will positively impact the national economy.

Speaking to reporters at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Thursday, November 5, after seeing off Liu Haixing, Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir shared this view.

He stated that there are no geopolitical apprehensions regarding the proposed Bangladesh-China corridor through Myanmar, and its realization would yield positive economic benefits for the country. However, he noted that resolving the Rohingya crisis remains a necessary prerequisite before opening the corridor.

Meanwhile, when asked about the possibility of Sheikh Hasina returning to the country in December, the State Minister dismissed it as laughable. He emphasized that as a fugitive terrorist, her return is not a matter of voluntary repatriation, but rather a legal issue governed by the extradition treaty.
