Bangladesh to Hold Presidential Election on August 20

The Election Commission (EC) has announced the schedule for the presidential election, with voting set for August 20. The schedule was officially released on Thursday afternoon. According to the announcement, the deadline for submitting nomination papers is August 13. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on August 16, while candidates may withdraw their nominations until August 18.
Earlier, the EC Secretariat received the voter list for the presidential election from the Parliament Secretariat following a formal request. Former President Mohammad Shahabuddin resigned on July 24. Under the Constitution, the Election Commission is required to hold a presidential election within 90 days of a president’s resignation.
As part of the preparations, Election Commission officials met Acting Speaker of Parliament Kayser Kamal on July 26 to discuss arrangements for the election. During the meeting, the Parliament Secretariat was requested to provide the voter list
