National University Announces Full Scholarships for SAARC Students
National University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A.S.M. Amanullah has announced a fully funded scholarship programme for students from SAARC countries, including opportunities for Nepali students to pursue higher education in Bangladesh free of charge. He said the initiative would strengthen higher education cooperation in South Asia by creating new opportunities for teaching, research, and cultural exchange.
The Vice-Chancellor made the announcement while speaking as the chief guest at an international conference on “Behavioural Science Advancement.” The conference, organised in a cross-cultural, multidisciplinary hybrid format, brought together researchers, psychologists, academics, and policymakers from several countries.
“The National University, the world’s second-largest university, is playing a significant role in Bangladesh’s higher education system with nearly four million students and more than 2,500 affiliated colleges,” the Vice-Chancellor said. He noted that many students across the country have experienced psychological trauma following the July-August uprising.
Addressing the challenge, the Vice-Chancellor said, requires stronger international collaboration, an effective counselling system, and the training of more professional psychologists. He added that ensuring students’ mental well-being is essential for sustainable human resource development. With that goal, the National University is implementing a long-term plan to expand mental health services and develop skilled professionals.
Highlighting the importance of international cooperation in higher education and research, the Vice-Chancellor also said the university is working to establish partnerships with institutions worldwide for joint research, training, academic exchanges, and mental health initiatives. He added that several foreign universities have already signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the National University, and an international conference on mental health featuring experts from around the world will be held soon.
