Heavy Rain to Ease After August 9

Heavy to moderate rainfall is expected across parts of Bangladesh for the next two to three days, but the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) says there is little likelihood of significant rainfall after August 9. According to meteorologists, rainfall will gradually weaken, with only scattered light to moderate showers expected through September.

The BMD said Bangladesh is currently in the middle of the monsoon season. Although the Bengali calendar traditionally recognises Ashar and Shraban as the monsoon months, the Meteorological Department considers June through September the official monsoon period. Meteorologist AKM Nazmul Haque said, “Rain is expected across most parts of the country over the next two to three days. After that, rainfall will decrease significantly. Based on the current forecast, there is little possibility of any substantial rainfall from August 9 through September.”

He said there are currently no conditions conducive to the formation of a low-pressure system over the sea, reducing the likelihood of any major natural disaster. The country received normal rainfall in June and July, but precipitation is expected to decline toward the end of the monsoon. Meanwhile, high humidity makes temperatures feel 2 to 3 degrees Celsius hotter than actual readings. Humidity is expected to decline toward the end of August, easing the discomfort caused by muggy weather.
