India Denies Role in Hasina’s Virtual Press Conference

India has clarified that it had no involvement in or endorsed the recent virtual press conference addressed by ousted Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who has been living in India since leaving office. The clarification came during the Indian Ministry of External Affairs’ weekly media briefing, where spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal responded to questions about Hasina’s remarks and the broader situation.

Jaiswal said the virtual press conference was organised entirely by a private platform or social organisation. He stressed that the Government of India had no connection with the event or the views expressed during it. He further clarified that comments made during the programme about Bangladesh’s interim government and the country’s overall situation did not reflect the Indian government’s position and did not have its support. Hasina’s virtual press conference recently sparked widespread discussion in Bangladesh and India, particularly on social media. Following questions about New Delhi’s role, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs formally clarified its position.
