No Decision Yet on PM’s India Visit: Foreign Minister
Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman said today that the government has not yet made a policy decision on a possible visit by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to India, despite invitations from the Indian government and BIMSTEC. Responding to reporters, Dr. Rahman said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had sent an invitation on the day the current government was formed. He added that the matter would be considered at an appropriate time.
Speaking after a meeting with Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi, he said Bangladesh had urged India to expedite the extradition of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and the handover of suspects in the Osman Hadi murder case. He also expressed concern over Ms. Hasina’s political remarks from New Delhi and urged India not to allow activities that undermine Bangladesh’s state institutions.
