US Foreign Policy Standing on Falsehoods

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei has sharply accused the United States administration of relying excessively on manufactured ‘falsehoods’ in its hostile Iran-focused foreign policy. On the social media site X, Mr. Baghaei publicly denounced Washington by posting a powerful literary quotation from Fyodor Dostoevsky’s famous novel The Brothers Karamazov: ‘A man who lies to himself… cannot distinguish the truth… and thus loses all respect’. He said that the US administration’s ongoing over-reliance on political fabrication has seriously harmed diplomatic credibility and placed it in a challenging situation.

In the midst of ongoing and intensifying political tensions between Tehran and Washington, this critical diplomatic assessment takes place. Iran has long denounced the United States’ aggressive regional policies and unilateral military actions, but the United States continues to take a strict and uncompromising position on Iran’s developing nuclear and military capabilities as well as its more general contentious activities throughout the Middle East.
