Netrokona 31 BGB Seizes Smuggled Goods Worth Tk 11 Crore

Through anti-smuggling operations throughout its designated border regions, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Netrokona Battalion (31 BGB) seized illegal products valued at around Tk 11 crore between January and August 2026. Operating along a difficult 92-kilometer boundary under the close surveillance of just 15 Border Observation Posts, the battalion was severely limited by a lack of adequate infrastructure, logistical support, and manpower. Despite these logistical challenges and difficult terrain, security officers were always on guard to uphold law and order, stop unlawful push-ins, and stop the trafficking of illegal weapons and drugs.

In an interview with the Daily Inqilab, Lieutenant Colonel Mr. Towhidul Bari, PSC, Captain of the Netrokona Battalion (31 BGB), said that BGB officers have performed their duty with the highest commitment and patriotism in spite of hundreds of obstacles and constraints. He highlighted the scope of illegal trafficking by pointing out that a variety of illegal goods, including alcohol, yaba, phensedyl, tapentadol, ganja, cattle, sugar, blankets, cumin seeds, betel nuts, medicines, bamboo, coal, chips, chemicals, sarees, lehengas, and cosmetics, are often tried to avoid border guards.

Authorities found 2,986 foreign alcohol bottles, 60 beer cans, 240 phensedyl bottles, 250 grams of ganja, 428 pieces of yaba, 49 bottles of Eskuf syrup, and 84 pieces of tapentadol, totaling Tk 48,23,420, during a period of eight months. A total of Tk 10,44,23,640 worth of additional seized goods, including livestock, sugar, and cosmetics, brought the total value to Tk 10,92,57,560. Additionally, 17 smugglers were arrested. Alongside these enforcement actions, effective public awareness initiatives against human trafficking and border crossing continue, Lieutenant Colonel Mr. Towhidul Bari said.
