12.5 Million Cubic Feet of Titas Gas to Join National Grid Today

A total of 12.5 million cubic feet of gas from Well No. 28 of the Titas Gas Field, operated by Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL), is being added to the national grid today, Saturday.

Another nearly 55 million cubic feet of gas could be added to the national grid within the next three to four months from Titas Wells No. 29, 30 and 31 and Well No. 11 of the Bakhrabad Gas Field.

Officials of BGFCL said these activities are being carried out as part of efforts to increase gas supply from domestic sources through drilling new wells and developing existing gas fields. Once work on all the wells is completed, around 67.5 million cubic feet of additional gas could be supplied to the national grid.

BGFCL General Manager (Operations) Engineer Md. Ashraful Alam said the Titas-28 well will be inaugurated tomorrow by the State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources. The well will be connected to the national grid immediately after the inauguration.

Engineer A.K.M. Jasim Uddin, Project Director of the project to drill four appraisal-cum-development wells in the Titas and Kamta fields, said drilling of the Titas-28 well was completed about a month ago. The well has a depth of around 13,000 feet. It will go into production immediately after the inauguration.

He said drilling work on Titas-28, Titas-29, Titas-30 and Kamta-2 began at a cost of around Tk 800 crore. Of these, Titas-28 will go into production tomorrow. There are also plans to complete work on the other wells quickly.

Md. Mahmudul Nawab, Project Director of BGFCL’s Deep Exploration Gas Well Drilling Project, said drilling of the Titas-31 deep exploration well began on April 19 this year. The drilling depth has already reached around 4,920 metres, against a target depth of 5,600 metres.

He said the well is taking comparatively more time to drill and complete subsequent activities because of its depth. If there are no geological complications, work on Titas-31 is expected to be completed within the next two to three months. If the well is successful, it could supply around 15 million cubic feet of gas per day to the national grid.

The main drilling work on Titas-29 has already been completed. Logging and other related activities are currently underway. Once these are completed, the well could be made ready for production within the next one to one and a half months.

The well is expected to produce around 10 to 15 million cubic feet of gas per day.
Work on Titas-30 is also planned to be completed within the next three to four months. BGFCL expects the well to produce around 10 to 15 million cubic feet of gas per day.

After completion of Titas-31, BGFCL plans to begin drilling the Bakhrabad-11 deep well. The target depth of the well is 4,500 metres. If drilling and testing are completed successfully, Bakhrabad-11 could supply around 10 million cubic feet of gas per day to the national grid.

Overall, Titas-29, Titas-30 and Titas-31 could produce a maximum of around 45 million cubic feet of gas per day, while Bakhrabad-11 could produce around 10 million cubic feet.

Including the 12.5 million cubic feet from Titas-28, the five wells could supply a maximum of around 67.5 million cubic feet of gas per day to the national grid.
