Delhi Christian Prayer Disrupted Over False Allegations of Mass Hindu Conversion
A right-wing Hindu group created a disturbance at a Sunday Christian prayer meeting on September 20 at the Hyatt Centric Hotel in Janakpuri, Delhi, accusing the organizers of conducting forced religious conversions. Members of the group barged into the venue, alleging that hundreds of Hindus were being converted through financial allurements. Videos circulating on social media showed group members levelling these accusations, with one individual claiming, ‘Conversion is taking place here. Christians are carrying out religious conversions at the Hyatt Centric Hotel in Janakpuri.’ The aggressors also claimed that attendees were predominantly Hindu children and asserted they were mistreated when protesting the event.
Delhi Police swiftly refuted the allegations following an on-site inquiry, confirming that the gathering was a routine religious event. Mr. Vichitra Veer, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Delhi), clarified on X that members of the local Christian community had gathered there for their regular Sunday prayers. Following an inquiry, no evidence or trace of any religious conversion was found. Addressing claims that nearly 500 people were being converted simultaneously, the senior police official firmly dismissed the rumors, stating, ‘The claim of nearly 500 people being converted is entirely false; please do not pay attention to such rumors.
Media reports and police investigations confirmed that the forms displayed in the viral videos were standard administrative documents rather than conversion contracts. The papers shown were ‘Prayer Request Forms’ and church membership documents associated with the ‘Global Royal Priesthood Church.’ The prayer request form simply asked attendees for their contact details and specific prayer intentions for the pastor, while another form, titled ‘Welcome to Priesthood Generation,’ inquired about interest in serving within the church. Police reaffirmed that these documents provided zero indication of unlawful or coercive religious conversion activities taking place.
The venue regularly hosts routine religious services for the local Christian community without incident. The ‘Global Royal Priesthood Church’ frequently organizes its Sunday assemblies at the Hyatt Centric Hotel, and a senior pastor had publicly posted an invitation on Instagram for the September 20 event, describing it as an ‘Atonement Sunday Service.’ Law enforcement authorities reiterated that their comprehensive investigation revealed no evidence of forced conversions, financial inducements, or illegal activities, confirming that the event was entirely peaceful until the external group disrupted the gathering.
