Prime Minister Attends UN Secretary-General’s Welcome Breakfast
Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and his wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman, have travelled to New York to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. There, they attended a welcome breakfast hosted by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
The breakfast marked the beginning of the Prime Minister’s official and busy schedule of engagements at the United Nations.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres hosted the breakfast at the North Delegates Lounge at the UN headquarters at 8:00am local time on Tuesday (September 22) in honour of world leaders and their spouses.
At the beginning of the breakfast, world leaders took turns going on stage with their spouses and joined a photo session with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and his wife.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman also went on stage with his wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman, for the photo session and exchanged greetings with Antonio Guterres and his wife.
After the breakfast, the Prime Minister attended the opening session of the 81st General Assembly at the General Assembly Hall of the UN headquarters at 9:00am. Heads of state and government from various countries were present at the session.
According to the schedule, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will address the United Nations General Assembly on September 24. This will be his first address to the UN as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, and, as is customary, he will deliver his speech in Bangla.
Alongside the UN General Assembly session, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will hold bilateral meetings and high-level courtesy meetings with heads of government from several countries and leaders of international organisations.
