President Trump Praises ‘Very Good’ Discussions with Iran

Amid ongoing military tensions between the United States and Iran, fresh signs of diplomatic engagement have emerged. U.S. President Donald Trump announced that American officials held a nearly three-hour meeting with Iranian representatives on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, describing the talks as ‘very good’ and ‘very productive’.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, September 22, at the UN General Assembly in New York, President Trump stated that U.S. officials engaged in extensive discussions with the Iranian delegation, adding that another round of talks could take place in the near future.

Mr. Trump revealed that Special Envoy Mr. Steve Witkoff and presidential advisor Mr. Jared Kushner represented the U.S., while Iranian Foreign Minister Mr. Abbas Araghchi led the discussion for Tehran. Iranian state media also confirmed the contact between Mr. Araghchi and Mr. Witkoff on the same day. Mr. Witkoff similarly offered positive remarks regarding the meeting. However, it remains unclear whether any concrete agreement was reached. President Trump reiterated that Iran will never be allowed to acquire a nuclear weapon, emphasizing that the U.S. stance on the matter remains unchanged.

Meanwhile, reports have surfaced regarding Iran’s conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz. According to Reuters, a senior Iranian official stated that Tehran is prepared to reopen the vital waterway within a week, provided military pressure is reduced and blockades on Iranian ports are lifted. With delegations from both nations in New York for the UN General Assembly, diplomatic outreach has gained renewed momentum alongside ongoing military tensions. Nevertheless, no official announcement has been made regarding a final consensus on the core disputes between the two countries.
