India Halts Hilsa Exports to Bangladesh

The Decision by the Department of Fisheries to cancel 103 No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for hilsa imports has taken effect, effectively halting the import of hilsa from India to Bangladesh.

The 103 NOCs were revoked on September 22 through an official order signed by Dr. Md. Khaled Kanak, Acting Director General of the Department of Fisheries. Consequently, the entire import process for hilsa from India has been suspended since then.

Mr. Ziaur Rahman Zia, General Secretary of the Import-Export Association, stated, ‘We have received a letter from the Bangladesh Department of Fisheries regarding the cancellation of numerous NOCs. Hilsa imports have been halted due to this decision, leaving importers in a difficult situation.’
