China’s 77th National Day Celebrated in Dhaka
Representatives of various political parties, government and private sectors, and diplomats attended a National Day reception hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka to mark the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
The reception was held at the Grand Ballroom of Hotel Sheraton in the capital on Wednesday evening. Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Dr Abdul Moin Khan was the chief guest. He expressed hope that Bangladesh-China relations would become stronger and more diversified.
Dr Khan said Bangladesh considers China one of its closest allies. He said bilateral relations cover various areas, including trade, investment, infrastructure, energy, industry and culture. He also expressed Bangladesh’s interest in learning from China’s development experience.
Among those attending were BNP Standing Committee member and Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, BNP Acting Secretary General and Standing Committee member Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Prime Minister’s Adviser and Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan, Health Minister Sardar Sakhawat Hossain Bakul, Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal and former Home Minister Aftab Ahmed, along with other BNP leaders.
The anniversary was celebrated with a cake-cutting ceremony.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Dr Shafiqur Rahman also attended the reception. He greeted the Chinese government and people on the occasion and handed Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen a letter addressed to Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Other Jamaat leaders present included Nayeb-e-Ameer ATM Azharul Islam MP, Assistant Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum, Rafiqul Islam Khan MP, Maulana Abdul Halim, Moazzem Hossain Helal and Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, Central Executive Council member Md Mobarak Hossain, Central Executive Council member and Dhaka South Secretary Dr Shafiqul Islam Masud MP, and Ali Ahmad Mabrur, a member of the Opposition Leader’s Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee.
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen highlighted the longstanding friendship between China and Bangladesh and expressed his commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations.
