Biman-Boeing Sign Supplementary Agreement to Acquire 11 More Aircraft
Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the national flag carrier of Bangladesh, has officially signed a supplementary agreement with US aircraft manufacturer Boeing for the procurement of 11 additional state-of-the-art aircraft. The deal was formally executed at an event organized on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session in New York, USA. Mr. Rumi A. Hossain, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Biman, and Mr. Brad McMullen, Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing at Boeing, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations.
Highlighting the importance of the deal, Mr. Rumi A. Hossain stated that the supplementary agreement marks a significant milestone in Biman’s ongoing fleet modernization and network expansion efforts. He noted that the purchase order was placed in light of the specific requirements of Biman’s fleet plan, adding that Biman’s long-standing and collaborative relationship with Boeing has instilled strong confidence regarding future aircraft delivery and subsequent support management to meet expanding global connectivity needs.
Mr. Hossain further emphasized Biman’s commitment to enhancing operational capacity for Bangladeshis, overseas workers, business travelers, and tourists. He remarked that as the national flag carrier, Biman remains committed to building a modern, efficient, and commercially viable fleet as part of a well-structured long-term strategy to strengthen the country’s international air connectivity. This new deal directly supports national aviation goals while maintaining essential commonality with Biman’s existing Boeing aircraft.
Looking ahead, the supplementary agreement will play a pivotal role in boosting Biman’s operational efficiency, capability, and route flexibility across its international network. In line with national strategic priorities, applicable laws and regulations, and the fast-evolving dynamics of the global aviation sector, Biman Bangladesh Airlines affirmed that it will continue to regularly review its fleet and network requirements to ensure long-term sustainable growth and competitive regional standing.
The high-profile signing ceremony was attended by key government and industry leaders from both nations. Notable attendees included Mr. M. Rashiduzzaman Millat, Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism of Bangladesh; Mr. Humayun Kabir, State Minister for Foreign Affairs; and Mr. Mahdi Amin, Adviser to the Prime Minister. Representing the US side were Mr. Howard Lutnick, US Secretary of Commerce; Mr. Christopher Landau, US Deputy Secretary of State; alongside Mr. Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, and Mr. Brendan Nelson, Senior Vice President of Boeing Global.
